Gender Based Affirmative Action Essay Affirmative Action is very essential to minorities of color, sex, and socio-economic status. In the past, African Americans have fought to have equality from the right to vote to the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The case of Brown vs. The Board of Education is suppose to show that there is a separate, but equal was the case, but affirmative action made that case have its true purpose. In the present there is a controversy of affirmative action since the 1978 case of Regents of the University of California v. Bakke.
